Emittance Exchange Experiment at AWA:AAI (AWA, ASD) and NIU Collaboration Kwang-Je Kim April 9, 2007 Web-page http://aps.anl.gov/Accelerator_Systems_Division/Accelerator_Physics/emitExchange/index.htm
Goal: Do not aim to be overly ambitious for this POP project • Do pure emittance exchange : • Do not combine with flat beam at this stage • As small charge as possible, consistent with diagnostics, to avoid instabilities • Produce asymmetric beam at the gun • Transverse emittances (normalized) • (ex, ey) =(10, 3) 10-6 m-r • Longitudinal: • DEe <3 keV (experimental pobservation) Dg<0.006 • Choose st=1.5 ps sz=0.45 mm • ez=3 10-6 m-r (ex, ey,ez)=(10, 3, 3) 10-6 m-r(3,3,10) 10-6 m-r
Deflecting Cavity Issues • Large Transverse Offset • John Power observed a large offset in his simulation. • Then Don’s note arrived. • KJK proposed a (1/2-1-1/2) configuration in analogy with ½ poles at the beginning and end of undulator. • However, the offset problem still persists with TM110 • John Power found that with real cavity design (Microwave Studio), the offset is reduced significantly for the (1/2-1-1/2) • The mode is close to the Hybrid EM mode • Degradation due to thick cavity effect • Don observed that the effect could degrade the exchange performance • However,Philippe Piot found that the unwanted effect could be cancelled out by giving a small chirp
Other Progresses • Yin-e Sun has a draft design of the beam line • Cavity will be fabricated at Tsinghua University • Marwan Rihaoui and others will practice asymmetric emittance production and diagnostics problem at AWA
