  14. Graphic Designs?? • The earliest graphics known to anthropologists studying prehistoric periods are Cave paintings and markings on boulders, bone, ivory, and antlers, which were created during the upper paleolithic period from 40,000–10,000 B.C. or earlier. • Many of these were found to record astronomical, seasonal, and chronological details.

  15. Throughout history, art and design has meant different things to different people. And that remains true today.

  16. Graphic Designs?? • Records from Egypt predate these and papyrus was used by the Egyptians as a material on which to plan the building of pyramids; they also used slabs of limestone and wood.

  17. Graphic Designs?? • From 600–250 BC, the Greeks played a major role in geometry. They used graphics to represent their mathematical theories such as the Circle Theorem and the Pythagorean Theory.

  20. What is Art and Design?

  21. Many art museums display beautiful objects from different cultures.

  22. Even though we call these objects works of art, the people who made them may not have any word for their “art”or “pottery”. Yet they take great care in making beautiful pottery.

  23. Art work is shown in Art Museumslike these below

  27. Whether or not it is intended as art, an object made by a person shows that individual’s creativity and skill. The artist, designer and craftsperson must have “thought” about “why” he or she was making the object.

  28. Athough people have created art for many reasons, most artworks belong to one of three broad categories: practical, cultural, personal.

  29. Lets take a look at a large collection of unusual Art and Graphic Design of our contemporary world.

  30. Art is interpreted through the eye of the beholder! There are several things you must consider when you look at different Art work. Most students approach viewing art by the “Like it,Don't Like it” comment. In looking at art “You the viewer should look first at the overall “Subject” of the work. Just like a book that has “Theme and a main character”, A work of art will have a “subject and a theme.”

  31. Description of Art You should be able to Gather descriptive information about: The size, media, and the artist's name. To be able to see the subject in each art viewed. To be able to distinguish the elements and principles in the work of Art and Design.

  32. Analysis of the work of Art Analysis is learning how to 'SEE' the elements and principles used by the artist in the work. The Elements of Art you will learn with your art projects are the same that all artists use seriously to execute their work!

  33. Elements of Art Line Color Shape/Form Value Space Texture

  34. The Principles of Art Balance Variety Harmony Emphasis Proportion Pattern Movement Rhythm Unity
