    Locating an epicenter and forecasting a tsunami arrival time . . .
  2. A math problem . . . Suppose you receive a seismogram from a coastal region that looks like the one on the board. What is the time lag? How far away is the epicenter? How much time do you have before a tsunami could possibly arrive?
  3. Get out the maps . . . In the folder (for the appropriate map) are three seismograms for a large (Magnitude 8.0) earthquake with its epicenter in the ocean. Locate the epicenter. Then, forecast the arrival time of a tsunami at a specific destination (that I’ll give you after you locate the epicenter correctly). The arrival time is the travel time of the tsunami MINUS the time taken to receive the S-Wave.
  4. Clean up . . . Please clean up the map. Also, get all materials put away (or back where you found them). Give me your folders. Give me your answer sheets.
