The average temp. of the of the warmest month is only 50-60 F! The average annual temp. is 10-20 F.The soil is usually frozen. The annual rainfall is less than 10”. • Plants- Lichen, Cushion Plant, Cotton Grass • Plant Adaptations- Small, Close to Ground, Tight Clumps, Leaves are Dark Red • Animals- Musk Oxen, Polar Bear, Arctic Fox, Snow Bunting • Animal Adaptations- Thick Fur, Fur turns White, Hibernation
The Tundra RainfallCompared to Other Biomes Fun Fact! The Ground of the Tundra is covered with a thin layer of permanent ice called Permafrost
Desert • World Location- Many deserts are found in bands along 30 latitude N and 30 latitude S • Climate, Soil, Precipitation- The hot desert’s main form of precipitation is rain, even though it gets less than 10” per year. • Plants- Aloe, Barrel Cactus, Old Man Cactus, Dragon Tree • Plant Adaptations- Ability to collect and store water, Features that reduce water loss, etc. • Animals- Dingo, Great Jerboa, Sidewinder, Thorny Devil • Animal Adaptations- Never Drink & get water from plants, Nocturnal, Stay Underground, enormous ears, light coloring, camouflage, migration
