Time Slips…. Fact or fiction?? By Mr. Fleming
What are they? A time slip is an alleged paranormal phenomenon in which a person, or group of people, travel through time via unknown means. As with all paranormal phenomena, the objective reality of such experiences is disputed. Time slip is a term usually applied when a period of time, maybe minutes or even years, appears to have been lost inexplicably, by one or more people, and is most commonly associated with a paranormal or extraterrestrial occurrence. Many people have reported such an experience during a journey, when the last reliable reference remembered of time is that of a clock striking or a news report on the radio, only to find that the next time the individual becomes fully aware of time, more time than expected has elapsed in contradiction to what would have been expected. The individual is then unable to account for the lost time. Although many scientists would argue that time cannot be lost but merely confused, for the people that experience this phenomena, it can be far from easily explained as a lapse of concentration or a period of drowsiness, or even sleep. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_slip
Evidence Mr B had a lady friend who was very much a skeptic concerning matters of the paranormal. In the 80's she worked in Liverpool city centre, and if the weather was pleasant, she would sit outside and eat her lunchtime sandwiches. One particular day, being sunny and warm, she decided to sit on a bench. As she sat down, she noticed that the sun did not seem as bright as it had been moments before, in fact looking back in later years she described the light as similar to when the area had a partial solar eclipse. She also noticed that the street did not seem as busy as it had been, which struck her as unusual for the time of day, 12.30 pm being the height of the lunch hour. She sat down next to a very smartly dressed man who was already sitting on the bench, and started to unwrap her sandwiches. The gentleman engaged her in conversation, and they chatted about inconsequential matters, as strangers do. As they chatted, the thought crossed her mind that although smart and very amiable, the man next to her appeared to be dressed in an out of date fashion, reminiscent of the fashions popular in the 1950's. As they were chatting, the man asked her a question. As she replied, she leaned forward to put her sandwich wrapper in the waste paper bin to the side of the bench. She took her eyes off the man for a split second as she dropped the wrapper in the bin, but carried on replying to his question. On sitting up again, she was astonished to realize that the man had completely vanished. She immediately scanned the area for him, but he was nowhere in sight, and could not have run off in the split second that she had taken her eyes off him. At the same instant, the sun returned to its ordinary brightness, and the area was crowded with people once more. http://www.parascience.org.uk/articles/time.htm
Evidence…. Before we dismiss the possibility out of hand perhaps it's worth remembering that a wide range of highly prestigious theoretical physicists and other scientists (both past and present) have gone on record with some very strange ideas about the true nature and behavior of the fourth dimension. It was no less than Albert Einstein, remember, who first laid down the foundation for the theoretical possibility of time travel with his famous "special theory of relativity." One of the very strange (but now proven) consequences of special relativity being that time slows down as you approach the speed of light, stopping completely for anything able to travel at light speed. Which, of course, logically implies that time might conceivably run backwards if you were somehow able to travel faster than light. <http://binnallofamerica.com/rr3.6.9.html>
Evidence… “…many scientists would argue that time cannot be lost but merely confused, for the people that experience this phenomena…” but… “There have been reports and evidence collected also on individuals who, when out walking around a range of locations, both natural and man-made, meet people, only to return on a later date to find that the person, and in some instances the place, witnessed had existed many years earlier, with no current trace.”
Evidence… One explanation that is today being offered in both instances is the connection of Time Slip with magnetism. Science now accepts that magnetic energy does have an effect upon electrical equipment. We know the brain operates using small electrical charges or impulses caused by stimulation of the senses and these are vital to the operation of nervous system. If this is so, then it is plausible to argue an electrical field could cause malfunctions or blips in human thought patterns, or alternatively, a 'different perspective' on the passing of time. Just as a cassette tape can be partially erased if placed by a large magnet (television set, loud speaker, computer screen), then the human brain could be affected by large magnetic impulses or energy fields, which are reported around the geographical vicinity of some UFO sightings. <http://www.mystical-www.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=116&Itemid=170>
Evidence… If you are still not convinced that there is more to time than meets the eye, you should go out on a cloudless, moonless night and look up at the stars, and you will be participating in a type of time-travel yourself, because you will be seeing the stars as they were many years ago. If you see a faint fuzzy patch of luminosity to the upper left of the Pegasus constellation, you will be looking at the Andromeda Galaxy, which is the nearest galaxy to ours. But you will not be seeing this galaxy as it is, but as it was 2.2 million years ago, because it is so far away, the light from it takes that long to reach your eyes here on Earth. In other words, you will be looking back into the remote past when you look up into the sky. <http://www.qsl.net/w5www/timeslips.html>
Conclusion While many of the things we learn in school and in life suggest that things such as time slips could not be possible, there seems to be enough non-scientific and even some scientific evidence, from individuals as highly respected as Albert Einstein, to suggest that time in and of itself as a concept is not as simple to understand as we may think. I’m not saying I’m a total believer in time slips, but the research I’ve done, at the least, makes me wonder and makes me want to research this more.
