  1. Classical Voice: Theory I Super Cool New Note Values!

  2. Epic Music Quote of the Day! • “The barriers are not erected which can say to aspiring talents and industry, ‘Thus far and no farther.’” - Ludwig van Beethoven

  3. So far, we’ve learned about the Quarter note, half note, and eigthth note. • These notes are fun and all, but rhythms can get pretty boring after a while with just these three notes. • So we’re adding two new ones today! :D

  4. The Whole Note • The whole note is a note with a long value. • It’s worth 4 counts, or beats. • It is equal to two half notes, or 4 quarter notes. • It also has no stem or flag. It just…. is. • Please note that when you draw these yourself, you don’t have to color it in and get fancy. A simple oval is fine.

  5. Dotted Half Note • So far we have note values of even numbers, which is pretty boring after a while. • This is why the dotted quarter note is so fun! It’s equal to an odd number of beats: 3! • This makes the rhythm much more diverse and interesting! • It looks just like a half note, but with a dot TO THE SIDE!!!! • It is important to note that the dot is to the side and not under the notehead. (That is something completely different!)

  6. Good to know…. • It should be noted that in music we have notes and terms that have many similarities with one another. • It is important that we take note (no pun intended) of these subtle differences so as not to make mistakes.

  7. Dotted Half Note: The dot is TO THE SIDE!!!!! NOT A DOTTED HALF NOTE! NOT EVEN A HALF NOTE!!! It looks the same, but they have completely different meanings!

  8. Activity • Let’s try reading some rhythms with our new notes, the whole note and the dotted half note! Yay! :D
