Headteacher – Mrs Ann Herridge B.Ed (Hons) Email office@cheselbourne.dorset.sch.uk Police Initiative Peter Farrrington, the headteacher at the Prince of Wales School, has been informed by the section commander at Dorchester police that they will be undergoing an initiative between now and December, monitoring schools closely at the beginning and the end of the school day and has asked that our parents could be informed. “Over the next six months Dorset Police will be targeting schools and road safety in our areas. They will be targeting the use of mobile phones whilst driving and not wearing seatbelts, they will also pay special attention to children not being restrained appropriately. You have been warned!!” Obviously a direct quote! Info from Newsletter sent on 17th September 2010
Headteacher – Mrs Ann Herridge B.Ed (Hons) Email office@cheselbourne.dorset.sch.uk Music Lessons – Government Initiative Year three and year four children had their first music lesson with Mrs Bultz on Monday of this week. Unfortunately they are not all playing the violin as well as Nigel Kennedy, yet, but they did enjoy participating in the music session and listening to her play – beautifully. Headteacher – Mrs Ann Herridge B.Ed (Hons) Email office@cheselbourne.dorset.sch.uk Music Lessons Piano lessons did not start this week as Mrs Massey’s car broke down on Tuesday morning. They will begin next week so please ensure your child has his/her piano book with them this coming Tuesday. We have new guitar and drum teachers. Sam Rile will be teaching guitar and Barney Stevens will be teaching drums. Drums will begin on Monday 27 September and guitar will start shortly – not exactly sure of the day or date yet. James Baker is the new DASP music coordinator and has been working really hard getting new teachers for us. Please, just bear with us whilst starting up the new sessions. Headteacher – Mrs Ann Herridge B.Ed (Hons) Email office@cheselbourne.dorset.sch.uk Nurse – Drop-in-Sessions Karen Caines, our community nurse will begin her drop in sessions on Monday 27 September. These sessions are really valuable as a means of any parents or carers being able to chat over any concerns you have. Karen is responsible for all our screening and she often comes into school to support our healthy eating, schools and lifestyle work. The children all know her and she knows them so she is a really good person to chat to, with a cup of tea. What is really important is it does not need to be a big problem – a little concern is good and often she will put your mind to rest or she will signpost you to the right person to help. She has helped many of our parents and she’s here and she’s free!! Info from Newsletter sent on 17th September 2010
Headteacher – Mrs Ann Herridge B.Ed (Hons) Email office@cheselbourne.dorset.sch.uk Police Visit PCSO Vickie visited us today and spent break time with the children. It was Tom’s birthday and she loved the cake he gave her – he’d brought in enough for everyone. Vickie is a regular visitor to the school. She comes to our Christmas and summer Fayres, sports day and even came on our sponsored walk once. She also supports us with teaching the children about safety issues, especially road and people safety. Info from Newsletter sent on 17th September 2010
Headteacher – Mrs Ann Herridge B.Ed (Hons) Email office@cheselbourne.dorset.sch.uk Sponsored walk A sponsored walk has been organized with the ‘Friends’ for the morning of Friday 8 October. Mrs Freeman will be sending out more information about the walk and sponsor forms next week. Last time we did this we gained a lot of money. It was a great success both in terms of people participating in the walk and the great amount of money raised. The ‘Friends’ support many really good things that happen in the school and pay completely for some really super things. It is so important that you realize just how much your children gain from their hard work – and, believe me, they work so hard. Also, the school would not be able to fund the summer trip and the pantomime – these are wonderful experiences, exclusive to Cheselbourne and free, due to the hard work of the ‘Friends’ team. Headteacher – Mrs Ann Herridge B.Ed (Hons) Email office@cheselbourne.dorset.sch.uk Parent consultations Each year we have three ‘Open Mornings’, one each term, when you can come in and share with your child/ren the work they have been doing in school. We also try to have a series of photos rolling on the whiteboards showing some of the more practical work they have been experiencing. We often have grandparents pop in for these sessions too. This is a time for you to talk with your child, not the teachers – that happens later in the day. Open morning, this term, is on Thursday 7 October and our parent consultations will be later on that day. We will put out appointment sheets for you to sign up for a time that suits you. Headteacher – Mrs Ann Herridge B.Ed (Hons) Email office@cheselbourne.dorset.sch.uk PE kit I know I said this in last week’s letter but a member of staff said to me today could I put in the letter how smart the children look in their PE kit. It is noticed. Well done everyone. Thank you. Books We have a different set of books in the foyer. Do call in and have a look. As before we need the money with any order but they are VERY much cheaper than the recommended price. Info from Newsletter sent on 17th September 2010
