  1. IWX Integrated Warning Team Media’s relationship with Emergency Management Cindi Clawson, WNDU-TV

  2. Info, please…. Your reports are very important!

  3. We need your reports • Radar is great, but ground truth is important to reinforce the message.

  4. We need your reports • Radar is great, but ground truth is important to reinforce the message. • With no info coming in, we are just saying (and tracking) the same things over and over and people start to tune out.

  5. We need your reports • Storm and damage reports not only show the public how strong the storm was, but serve as an extra warning for those still in the path.

  6. We need your reports • Storm and damage reports not only show the public how strong the storm was, but serve as an extra warning for those still in the path. • Help give a more clear picture of what is happening and help people to make more informed decisions.

  7. We need your reports • Information that is helpful: • Storm and damage reports • Road blockages or closures from trees/power lines • Flooding information • No damage

  8. Sirens

  9. Sirens: When and Why? • Obvious for tornado warnings, but if there is no warning and sirens are sounded there can be some confusion for us and the public. Funnel cloud spotted? High winds?

  10. Sirens: What is your policy? • Countywide for every warning or by sector?

  11. Sirens: What is your policy? • Countywide for every warning or by sector? • Is it just on/off or does the siren sound for a certain time and then an all clear is sounded when the threat is over?

  12. For Discussion: • Is there a quick way to get info to the NWS from the field? A phone call? An app? • Most media outlets are on NWSChat during a storm event, so if the info can get there quickly we can all use it.

  13. Questions? Comments?
