Microsoft Smart Watch DANIEL GRUSHKOVSKIY
BACKGROUND INFORMATION • Microsoft is joining Apple and Google in creating a “smart watch” • Would have many of the same features as smart phones. • Microsoft has met with part suppliers from Asia and are currently working on the product.
Technology • There are some watches that are highly computerized. • Such as the Nike FuelBand which measures physical activity. • Microsoft’s watch would have a screen that’s one and a half inches in diameter. • Microsoft used to sell computerized watches (stopped in 2008) • They gave real-time news, weather, stocks updates, and text messages • Wall Street Journal article about the Microsoft Watch and wearable gadgets in general: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324485004578423522275087936.html
advantages • Faster to get out/use than a phone. • Some third party apps are already ready. • Wallet for windows program would allow people to pay with their debit/credit cards just by swiping their watch. • Can use this while driving.
Disadvantages • Apple already has the upper hand in sales of smart phones. • Don’t know yet if the average person will be attracted to wearable technology. • Touchscreen much smaller than a phone. • Since the Windows phone isn’t a big seller in America, many app companies aren’t focusing on making apps compatible with windows. • More Advantages/Disadvantages: http://techland.time.com/2013/04/15/microsoft-mulls-a-smartwatch-here-are-its-strengths-and-weaknesses/
