What is AED? • The National Pre-professional Health Honor Society • PSU Beta Chapter • Caters to students on paths toward: • Medicine • Dental • PA • Nursing • And many other health related fields…
What can AED do for me? • Access to information and advice regarding entrance into healthcare careers • Volunteer and job-shadowing resources • Nationally recognized involvement in campus activities • Leadership Opportunities (officer, committee head, etc.) • Improvement of PSU committee recommendation letter
Why be an active member of AED? • There are 3 types of membership: • General Member: attends meetings, involved in committee work • Local Honors Member: active member, meets honors requirements (5 service points) • Benefits: Honors title on resume, wear an honors cord at graduation, name recommended to Pre-health evaluation committee, stronger med school committee letter • Nationally Inducted Member: become a member of the national Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical honors society, 3.3 GPA requirement, one time fee
I am a Freshman, what should I do now? • Get involved from the start! • You can get 4 full years of local honors membership • Make Penn State feel a little smaller by making a new group of friends! • Meet fellow classmates • Meet upper classmen “mentors” who can help with advice for the Penn State experience
How can Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors stay involved? • Be actively involved in a committee • Help w/Events • BloodCup • THON • Public Health Fair • Attend a Social
What are meetings all about? • Speakers • Hear about the careers, glory, and struggle of the medical field from real physicians, etc. • Committees/ Service • These make the club work! • Preparation - Learn what it takes to be a health professional and develop personal goals.

Pizza will be served following his comments. • On Friday, Sept. 10th, 1:00 - 5:00 in the HUB Auditorium (southwest corner of the complex), a series of CME lectures on "The Rising Threat of Infectious Disease."Topic introduction by Dr. Peter HudsonSpeakers will be:Dr. Marshall, "Humans meet Helicobacter pylori" andDr Mary Poss, "Emerging viruses and issues for practioners" and Dr. Andrew Read, "Issues with vaccines and infection control."Students are encouraged to attend and can do so free of cost. • Banquet – Tuesday, October 26th
