Concepts.... • DA is a systematic and objective examination concerning the relevance, effectiveness, efficiency and impact of activities in the light of specified objectives. •  The idea is to isolate the errors not to reproduce them and to underline and promote the successful mechanisms for current and future development. • To provide recommendations and lessons that have learnt from development works . • DA are also indirectly a means to report to the citizen / donor about the activities implemented. It is a means to verify that the money donated is being well managed and transparently spent. Only for class discussion

  15. Indicators indicate. • Indicator : number, percentage, an observation, signal that gives us a reliable and unbiased understanding about an object, a situation, a phenomenon, a happening, a motion, a development process etc. Only for class discussion

Indicators.... • Human Development Index (HDI) • Income, health, Education • Corruption Perception Index • The CPI generally defines corruption as "the misuse of public power for private benefit." • The CPI currently ranks 176 countries "on a scale from 100 (very clean) to 0 (highly corrupt). HDI • A scale from 0 (no development) to 1 (complete development). • An index, which is based on three equally weighted components: • Longevity, measured by life expectancy at birth • Knowledge,  measured by adult literacy and number of years children are enrolled at school • Standard of living,  measured by real GDP per capita at purchasing power parity Only for class discussion

Indicators... • Assessment of Development Results by UNDP It is carried out by the UNDP Evaluation Office and addresses three sets of key questions: • Is UNDP doing the right things, with a focus on relevance to the country’s development goals, partnership, and strategic positioning for the future? • Is UNDP doing things right, with a focus on the effectiveness of its activities, efficiency of execution, and efficacy given internal country and external global contextual factors? Are there better ways of achieving the results? • Are the results sustainable? Do they ensure sustainability with a focus on national ownership, an enabling policy environment, capacity development, gender equality and other key drivers UNDP considers in assessing development effectiveness?
