Sometimes It is Better to Drop • Most rummy experts believe that at times, it becomes crucial to exercise the drop option. • This happens when you carefully analyse your hand and realize that you would require too many turns to meld your cards. • It is the number of turns that is critical and is responsible for a player winning or losing a game.

  3. High value card • Don’t just straightaway discard the cards like Jack, Queen and King. If they are in the form of a pure run, they are an asset. Likewise, if you have a pure run in place and two big cards, you can try forming a combination with them. Generally, players try to get rid of such cards in the very beginning of the game, you can try making the most of such a scenario.

  4. Discard Carefully • Rather than directly dropping the cards that you do not need, take care what cards your adversaries might be waiting for. Observe what cards they pick from the open pile and try to speculate what combinations they could be trying to form. Accordingly drop cards so as not to aid them in any way, but to delay their advancement. • Another tactic is to drop cards close to joker. There are negligible chances of such cards being picked by other players because forming pure runs using jokers is not an advised rummy strategy.

It is so because when you pick cards from the open pile, your rivals get to observe and calculate what sequences or sets you are aiming at. However, an exception is when you need just one card to complete your combination.
