  1. Corn Ethanol BY: BJ, Chris, & Logan

  2. Description • Ethanol produced from corn that is used as a biomass • Produced by means of ethanol fermentation • A combustible clear liquid which is produced by the fermentation of sugars contained in crops as corn and soybeans • Also known to be a drinking alcohol • Ethanol cost more than gasoline

  3. How it works? • Created by harvesting crops • Most cars are designed to run on gasoline, ethanol is blended with gasoline allowing cars to run • Also improves engine performance and prevents “knock”

  4. Who would most likely use it? What regions would benefit the most? • Now everyone uses it for there car. • In Georgia today we use 10% of ethanol for our cars • In other states there might be a higher percentage than Georgia because there more polluted • Ethanol is a very high energy source for the world today

  5. Average Cost • As of June 6, 2012 the whole sale price of gas was lower than the cost of using ethanol • Gas ($2.72) • Ethanol ($3.43)

  6. Pros • Reduce U.S. reliance on oil imports from other countries • Moderate reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases • Reduces gas consumption • Harmless is spilled

  7. Cons • Is intensive to prouduce • Raised the price of corn from 2 to 7.50 dollars per bushel • Food v.s Fuel • Fuel Transportation
