National 5 Prelim Preparation
Factors Impacting on performance (Q1) • Choose 2 factors • Choose 2 activities (we have done) • Explain the impact on your performance • Later on you need to discuss you how tested this factor and also how you planned (3) sessions to improve the factor
Easiest factor to use?? • PHYSICAL • ENDURANCE • TECHNIQUE
Endurance covered in: • Swimming – (Endurance) Cardio Respiratory, Speed, Muscular • Cross Country – Cardio Respiratory • Football – Cardio Respiratory
Technique covered in: • Basketball – lay up • Tennis – serve and other shot • Badminton – weak shot • Swimming – dive, tumble turn • Softball (not best to use) – Over arm throw
Other Factor to Discuss • Emotional = Confidence • Mental = Control of Anxiety • Question 1 you need to be able to discus the Physical factor and one of the above factors in TWO activities • Later in question 3 you need to discuss another factor • Whichever above factor you do not discus in Q1, use it for discussion later in Q3
Question 1 – 2 Factors affecting two Activities • Technique affecting Basket ball (lay up) • Technique affecting Swimming (tumble turn / dive) • Emotional = Confidence affecting Basketball • Emotional = Confidence affecting Swimming
Q 1 A. Explain in detail how it has had an impact on your performance in this activity • How to structure answer • Give a definition of what the aspect is (use your course notes) • Discuss 2 points how it had an impact on your performance • Take two points from a positive or negative view • HINT – the factor (Endurance or Technique) you will later describe tests for and what the test results mean = discuss how it had a negative effect on your performance (that is the factor you will later show how you planned to improve it)
Swimming example (100m FC) • Impact on Performance if CRE is a Strength • Fast overall race time (approximately 1 min 10 sec). • Consistent split times. • Consistent number of breaths per length, head staying in water throughout the six lengths. • Able to swim (maintain technique) consistently over 6 lengths. • Consistent pacing over lengths 1-5 and a faster pace over length 6
Swimming example (100m FC) • Impact on Performance if CRE is a Weakness • Slow overall race time (approximately 1 min 35 sec). • Increasing, rather than consistent split times. • Increasing number of breaths per length, head completely out of water towards the end of the race. • Unable to swim (maintain technique) consistently over 6 lengths. • Slow finish to the race and progressively slower turns throughout the race.
Swimming example (100m FC) • Effect on Performance if Anxiety is a Strength • You have visualised yourself being successful prior to competing. • You will be relaxed and in control of your emotions prior to competing. • You remain focused on all aspects of the race, while competing. • You will have no self-doubt.
Swimming example (100m FC) • Effect on Performance if Anxiety is a Weakness • You will not have visualised yourself being successful prior to competing. • You will be over anxious and nervous about what lies ahead. • You will lose focus of aspects of the race. • You will have self-doubt about your ability and performance in the race.
Q 2A. Explain in detail one method you have used to gather information on your performance • One Method = One TEST you did on the Endurance of technique factor • DESCRIBE HOW you carried out this test • Who, When, Where, How long, Equipment needed, area used, How many… • From your description another pupil should be able to go and conduct the test
Q 2B. Explain in detail why you chose this method? • Use course notes Page 22 to direct you • Appropriateness of Whole Performance Test (100m FC) • It is pool based. • It relates specifically to 100m front crawl. • It is carried out under competitive race conditions. • It highlights a specific aspect of the stroke (breathing) which can be used to indicate whether CRE is a strength or a weakness. • The overall race time and split times can be interpreted to identify whether CRE is a strength or a weakness.
Question 2C. • Explain what you discovered from your testing/data collection? Summarise the information you have gathered to show what it tells you about your performance. • Strengths and areas for development (Give examples to back up your answer) • What did the tests show you were good at? How does this have a positive impact on your performance? • What do you need to develop (CRE or Technique)? How does this have a negative impact on your performance.
