SEA MOC TOOP CEBB! Chapter 1o Lesson 1 Levels of Organization
Essential Question • What are cells made of? • What Are the Levels of Organization in an Organism?
Prior Knowledge Discussion If everything is made of molecules, what are molecules made of? • Atoms!
Levels of Organization The levels of organization are from smallest to largest or simple to most complex.
Which Elements are the Building Blocks of Life? Almost all life forms on Earth are primarily made up of only four basic elements: • Carbon • Oxygen • Hydrogen • Nitrogen (Phosphorous and Sulfurare also important in Biology)
Molecular/Cellular: • sub-atomic particles-> • atoms-> • molecules-> • organelles-> • cells-> The first level, and smallest is the molecular level. This includes DNA and cells, the smallest unit of life capable of carrying out the functions of living things.
Organism: • Tissues-> • organs-> • organ systems-> • organisms->
Ecological: • populations-> • communities-> • ecosystems-> • biome-> • biosphere
Each level ties into the next you can’t have one without having the other.
