Search Guidelines • Establish a pattern-Search Right or Search Left • Search one area at a time • Determine most hazardous area • Exit by same Door you enter • Ventilateas you go! • Keep command informed of progress
Remember to Check... • Near Windows • In Closets • Behind Furniture • Under Beds • Bathrooms • Near All Doors
To Indicate a Room Has Been Searched… • Chalk markings on door • Tags on doors • Turn Furniture/Beds upside down • Radio transmission
Search Techniques • Always work on hands and knees • Communication between team is essential • Occasionally stop and listen for… crying, coughing, choking, etc. • Extend your reach with tools, rope, etc. • Use hand lights routinely • Check all doors for heat prior to opening
If You Become Lost or Disoriented • Activate PASS device • Go down stairs, not up • Follow hose line…find a coupling • Feel for large lugs on male coupling • Travel in direction of male coupling • Remain calm, THINK, and conserve air
