TITLE 1 PROGRAM FMS TITLE 1 INTERVENTIONISTS
Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act provides financial assistance to state and local educational agencies to meet the needs of at-risk children. The goal of the Title I Program is to provide instructional services and activities which support students in meeting the state’s challenging performance standards. WHAT IS TITLE 1?
What will Title I do for my child? The Title I program will provide your child with extra educational assistance beyond the regular classroom. Which schools does Title I Serve? The program serves students well below grade level standards requiring intensive interventions by the Title I teacher. Title I also serves children who attend parochial and private schools.
Then, State Educational Agencies send this money to school districts. How much money each school receives is determined by the number of low-income students attending that school. First, the federal government provides funding to each state.
Title I schools: • Identify the students at their school who need the most educational assistance based on the criteria that school has chosen. Students do NOT have to be from low-income families to receive Title I services. • Set goals for improving the skills of educationally disadvantaged students at their school.
CONTINUED… • Measure student progress to determine the success of the Title I program for each student. • Develop programs for each individual student in order to support/supplement regular classroom instruction.
To sum it all up… Title I Services means additional instruction and/or student support services which supplement the instruction provided in the general curriculum. Title I Services are intended to assist students who are at risk of not achieving the State Standards for Language Arts and Mathematics. Services are provided through several models, which include but are not limited to: push-in, pull-out, small group, and progress monitoring.
Continued… Students in grades 7 & 8 will receive Title 1 Services if they meet the established criteria. They will receive small group, targeted instruction for 30 minutes,3 times per week, as well as 2 times per week in an after school tutorial. The Title I Team reviews school-based assessments, classroom-based measures, teacher recommendation, attendance records, progress reports, and other evaluations.
