SIMILE OXYMORON PERSONIFICATION Figurative Language Figurative language is using every expressions that are not literally true to convey meaning. Expressions such as “I’m going to lose my mind!” aren’t literally true (I hope), but we understand this figuratively as “I am overwhelmed or frustrated.” Review Game

  4. Anger grabbed him when he was insulted. PERSONIFICATION • Personification is treating abstraction or inanimate objects as human, that is, giving them human attributes, powers, feelings. EXAMPLE

  5. HYPERBOLE • Hyperbole is extreme exaggeration; it may be used for a serious or comic effect. EXAMPLE • I walked fordays to get to the cafeteria.

  6. ONOMATOPOEIA • Onomatopoeia is a word that is spelled like it sounds. EXAMPLE The hum of the air conditioner and buzz of the bees put me to sleep.

  7. OXYMORON An oxymoron is a statement with two parts which seem contradictory. They are opposite in meaning. The waiter brought us jumboshrimp. EXAMPLE
