Introduction • Using CAS for Admissions • Using CAS for Advisement • Getting the Freshest Data • CAS Coming Attractions, Contacts and Help
Using CAS for Admissions • Recruitment • Web access? • No web access? • Transcript Evaluation • What’s official, what’s not official in CAS?
Recruitment - Web Access • I know I will have WWW access from my recruiting location. • Login to CAS as a member • Review the information under the “help” button • Use CAS to create: • Students’ course portfolios • Transfer Transcript Planning Aids for students • General Education Planning Aids for students • Use CAS as a starting point to link to UA Web resources for prospective students.
Recruitment - No Web Access • I know I will NOT have WWW access from my recruiting location. • Prepare printed reports of needed CEG information (current and future rules only) • http://az.transfer.org/cas/ > Administrative CEG • Run and print General Education Planning Guides for relevant community colleges • Use CAS > Login as a member > Request a Planning Aid > UA > General Education > Cross-reference with a particular community college • Use the most current year/term to get the most current information.
Transcript Evaluation • Create a course portfolio • Use CAS > Login as Member > My Courses • The “Course Bank” method is less error-prone • The “freehand” method is faster • Create a planning aid • Request a Planning Aid • Select a “Transfer Transcript” for equivalencies • Select “General Education” for general education values
What’s Official in CAS? - and What’s Not? • CAS is now the OFFICIAL REPOSITORY OF CEG DATA for the state of Arizona. • The CEG function within CAS shows official rules. • The Administrative CEG reports show official rules. • Planning Guides created in CAS can NOT be official • They are based on self-reported data!
Using CAS for Advisement - Transfer To UA • Ask the student to record her courses • She may record community college courses she plans to take, as well as those she’s already taken. • She need not record university coursework. • Create Transfer Planning Aids • Select the “Transfer Transcript” aid for course equivalencies. • Select the “General Education” aid for general education values.
Using CAS for Advisement - Community College courses • Find community college courses with General Education value at UA • Request a Planning Guide • Select “General Education” • Select a cross-reference institution • Select the most current year/term • There is no need to record the students’ courses
Getting the Freshest Data • CAS Equivalency data will be loaded every other Wednesday, beginning August 9. • Equivalency rules will be posted for future terms as soon as they are known. • Administrative CEG Reports will be refreshed every time the equivalency data in CAS changes. • If you print CEG Reports, they will only be current for two weeks, at most!
CAS Coming Attractions • Interactive “Transfer Guides”? • These will be CAS Transfer Planning Aids • Like the static html Transfer Guides, except: • They will show how a students’ community college coursework might match the transfer guide. • Cross-reference planning aids will allow the student to see the community college courses that will transfer to the university major. • Administrative CEG “Change” Reports? • To include only the rules that have changed from one data load to another.
CAS Coming Attractions - Part II • University-to-University transfer in AZ • University-to-Community College transfer in AZ • Nationwide Transfer Information • Electronic loading of students’ coursework • Electronic transmission of students evaluated transfer coursework • Lots more….
