  2. What is a Forensic Nurse? According to the International Association of Forensic Nurses, Forensic Nursing is the application of nursing science to public or legal proceedings; the application of the forensic aspects of health care combined with the bio-psycho-social education of the registered nurse in the scientific investigation and treatment of trauma and/or death of victims and perpetrators of abuse, violence, criminal activity and traumatic accidents What do Forensic Nurses do? They provide direct services to individual clients, consult services to nursing, medical and law related agencies, and also do court testimonies.

  3. Who do Forensic nurses work with? They work with interpersonal violence like child abuse/neglect, elder abuse/neglect and domestic violence. Also emergency /trauma services like suicide, near-fatal trauma, and automobile and pedestrian accidents. Death investigation like homicides, suicides, suspicious and accidental deaths. Forensic nurses also work with public health and safety like drug/alcohol abuse, food and drug tampering, also illegal abortion practices, along with many more. How much schooling is needed to be a Forensic Nurse? All forensic nurses need to be licensed RNs which takes about 2-4 years. After that a person needs training and after passing an exam they than can get there Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner certification.

  4. What are the employment prospects for Forensic Nurses? The employment prospects are pretty good in the United States. A forensic nurse can treat victims in a hospital type setting or may also need to be on the scene. What is the salary like for Forensic Nurse? According to HealthcarePrograms.com, forensic nurses can start around $26 per hour and can get as high as $100 per hour. During a 40-hour week this amounts to an annual salary of $54,080 to $208,000.
