buffoon • Person who makes an attempt to be funny; a clown or fool • Ex: Stop acting like a buffoon and get down to work!
doleful • Mournful or full of sorrow • Ex: The doleful look on her face told me she had not gotten the puppy she so desperately wanted.
extrovert • A person who enjoys being around others and is less focused on themselves. • Ex: She didn’t want to stay home alone as she was an extrovert.
garish • Excessively bright and flashy, tastelessly glaring Ex: I told Henry that his tie was too garish to wear to the prom.
hierarchy • A system where positions of power are ranked, usually from lowest to highest. Ex: In the hierarchy of Canadian government, the Prime Minister leads the government in the highest position.
imbue • To fill with a feeling or idea; to inspire • Ex: The really great athletes are imbued with the desire to win.
instigate • To stir up or urge on; to provoke • Ex: Nicholas instigated a dispute when he asked his friends who the best soccer player was.
penchant • A strong attraction or leaning • Ex: My mom has a penchant for antiques so our house is full of them.
rambunctious • Behaving in a wild, unruly manner • Ex: • The class is rambunctious today. Did you all have sugar pops for breakfast?
repertoire • The skills or accomplishments of a person or group (can be a list of songs, pieces a musician or actor can play) • Ex: Mr Buchan has a large repetoire of songs that he uses with his classes.
rudiment • A basic principle or skill • Ex: This book teaches the rudiments of cooking. • An underdeveloped stage: • Ex: The rudiments of her essay were there, but she needed more examples.
undermine • To weaken or ruin by degrees • Ex: His smoking habit undermined his health.
unremitting • Not stopping or slowing down; constant • Ex: The unremitting snoring of my roommate kept me up all night.
