Data/Benchmarks MATH • Aspire uses the Math Benchmark Exam to measure a student’s growth in math. • This test has ALL kindergarten skills for the whole year. • It is given 3 times a year. 1. Beginning of the year (August) 2. Mid-year (December) 3. End of the year (June)
Data/Benchmark DRA and READING • Developmental Reading Assessment (A, 1, 2, 3, 4) • Reading A-Z (aa, A, B, C, D) • Fountas and Pinnell (A, A , B, C, D) • Scholastic Guided Reading Level (A, B, C, D) • Lexile Level (200 – 400) Scholastic Book Clubs – Book Orders
Small Group Instruction • 1-5 students, grouped by level • Work on a book one level above their independent level. This is called their “guided level” and means they should be successful with some guiding. • word work or phonics • vocabulary focus • Students are asked guided questions about the book. • “Good Reader” strategies (Directed Reading – Thinking Activity--DRTA) • Students read book aloud independently. • Once all students have read, we discuss the questions and complete a follow-up activity.
Sight/High Frequency Words • list of 100 words (numbers and colors) • #1-50 are a MUST • #51-100 will better prepare students for 1st grade • flashcard practice • daily HW practice • read, spell, write (TESTING) (mastery – owning it)
