  2. Nat Turner was born on October 2, 1800 in Southampton County, Virginia. He was intelligent and born into a slave family, his master was Samuel Turner. He ran away from plantation in 1821 and returned 30 days later after encountering a vision from a prophet. He was sold to Joseph Travis after the death of Samuel Turner. Nat Turner’s Biography

  3. After Samuel Turner died, he was sold to Thomas Moore and had another vision 3 years later. He was moved to Joseph Travis after Moore’s widowed wife married him. He began to see “signs” from his vision that would eventually lead to his rebellion. His rebellion started on August 21, 1831, and ended o n October 30, 1831 when he was captured.   4. Nat Turner viewed society to be cruel and harmful to him as a slave. He wanted to change society so that slaves could be free, as most abolitionists did. Criticism of Society

  5. Nat Turner’s method to improve life could be seen either way. In a practical sense, Nat Turner did not have much of an option other than forming a revolt. In a radical sense, murdering people in his massacres could be seen as a murderous feat. He could do much reformation as a slave, his only choice would be a revolt. His method… practical or radical?

  6. On August 21, 1831, Nat Turner and his loyal slaves invaded the Travis household, freeing slaves and grouping followers. Eventually, he led a force of 40 slaves on horse back and continued to kill white people they encountered. Nat Turner’s Rebellion

  7. On August 22, 1831, his force met a militia and was scattered. They tried to pose another attack but were thwarted by a force of Federal troops. Nat Turner escaped and hid until October 30, 1831 and was tried on November 5 and sentenced to execution On November 11, 1831, Nat Turner was hung and skinned. Nat Turner’s rebellion led to a total of 55 white people slaughtered and over 200 blacks were killed as a result of raids, including innocent black people following the trial. End of The rebellion

  8. Nat Turner’ rebellion, although it had been dismantled, left a lasting impact for future abolitionist movements. His intentions were to try and abolish slavery through force. Successful…Unsuccesful?
