What is the Amendment Process? • Amendment = a change to the Constitution • Example: • 2nd Amendment: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
The Process If the process is so basic why have there only been 27 amendments? Last amendment was in 1992. It is about Congressional pay.
What are the Amendments? • 27 total • Last one in 1992 • First 10 called the Bill of Rights
Day 7: FEDERAL and STATE POWERS You do not need the objective today. We will start with a discussion. You have 5 minutes to complete the questions from yesterday. Focus on Numbers 13 to 16.
Discussion… Difference between a patriot and a rebel. What were the colonists?
How involved should the government be in our lives? • Steroids out of sports? • Allowing abortions? • Public schools distributing condoms?
How are the terrorists from 9-11 any different from our founding fathers?
Review for quiz… If you want extra credit write a paragraph about each concept. You will receive 2 points per paragraph. The quiz is worth 50 points total. • Weaknesses of the Articles • Checks and Balances • Separation of Powers • Federalists vs. Anti-Federalists • Federalism • Judicial Review • Amendment Process • National vs. State Powers
What did we learn? Must write phrases (3 or more words) or complete sentences.
Create a Venn diagram showing the powers of the nation, state and concurrent powers….oh yeah no words pictures only!

Answer the questions… • In groups of 3 to 4, answer the worksheet related to national and state powers.
