Vocab List 02 • pervade – to spread throughout • The rumor of an early release from school due to weather quickly pervaded the student body. • discourse – to converse; to formally discuss a subject • The two doctors discoursed about the best course of action for their patient. • conjure – to summon or bring into being as if by magic • Saul’s mom is so skilled at baking, it’s like she conjures her cookies out of thin air.
Vocab List 02 • sanction – to authorize or approve • NBHS administration does not sanction the use of cell phones or other electronic devices during the school day. • genial – cheerful and pleasant; friendly; helpful • The university tour guide was genial toward the new students. • indulgent – lenient; yielding to desire • Many people are more indulgent with their diets during holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Vocab List 02 • inert – inactive; sluggish; not chemically reactive • After a weekend of late-night partying, Craig was inert on Monday morning. • levee – an embankment designed to prevent the flooding of a river • The poorly-constructed levee threatened to break during the heavy flood. • erratic – unpredictable or wandering • The kitten was intrigued by the erratic motions of the birds outside the window.
