Coronado’s Search for GOLD 1. In 1540 the viceroy sent Coronado to find the Golden Cities. 2. He came to a Zuni pueblo and saw that the walls were not gold. 3. Coronado then sent search parties to different directions. 4. The groups found the Grand Canyon, the Gulf of Mexico, California, and pueblo villages in what is now New Mexico. 5. Coronado’s group looked for a mythical city of riches but found no gold. 6. They went back to Mexico and reported that there was no gold.
