Finite Element Analysis Analyzing Pressure Vessels using FEA in CATIA Matt Luedeman, Tyler Flowers, Lucas Pope
Goal • Explore CATIA’s Generative Structural Analysis Workbench by performing a FEA on an assembled pressure vessel.
Step 1: Assembly Mesh • Create Mesh • For each part in assembly • Small enough so that the tetrahedron mesh is uniform • Large enough to minimize computation time
Step 2: Connections • Create connections between the parts of the assembly • Add analysis connections between parts • Add connection properties for each of the analysis connections
Step 3: Loads and Restraints • Create Loads • Loads should accurately represent actual conditions. • Create Restraints • Lines or faces can be restrained from rotation or translation • How an object is restrained will have a large effect on the results of an FEA
