3G & 2.4 GHz Wireless Solar Powered System Frank Stratton – VE3YY
Solar Powered Wireless • The Problem • No Hydro • No High Speed Internet • No Good Signals near the lake
Environment • Trailer Park • Calabogie Area • Lake area near Tatty Hill • 500 acre farm with a trailer park behind the hill • 3G Distance from Tatty Hill to Burnstown – 20 Km • 2.4 GHz wireless distance – ½ kilometre
Equipment • 2.4 GHz • TPLink Router • TPLink repeaters (2) • Rogers Rocket Hub • 850 MHz 12 element 3G Yagi • 24 Element 2.4 GHz Yagi • 2.4 Ghz Dish • 2.4 Vertical Antenna • 2.4 GHz 32 slot horizontally polarized antenna
Equipment Continued • Charge Controllers (MorningStar) • Batteries – Flooded and Gel • Solar Panels – Mostly manufactured by Sharp
Lessons Learned • Leaves and 2.4 GHz do not mix. • Cut down trees between the antennas • Height and high gain antennas • Mix vertical and horizontal antennas • Routers & Repeaters consume 3 to 4 amps • Do not use 120 volt converters. • Direct connect and use only 12 volt repeaters and routers • Use same manufacturer for routers and repeaters • TPLink used in this system
