  3. Ideal Chapter Structure

  4. President Duties • Chairs all meetings • Represents Society in a given area • Runs Chapter subject to board approval • Oversees the “Stay in Touch” program and assigns “buddies” to new graduates

  5. Vice President Duties • Presides in absence of president • Duties as assigned by president

  6. Secretary/Treasurer Duties • Gives notice of all functions • Keeps minutes • Corresponds with Alumni Affairs office • Provides reports to the Cornell Hotel School Magazine, including pictures • Responsible for finances • Annual financial report to board

  7. Program Chair Duties • Marketing, organization and preparation of all functions • Coordinate dates with Alumni Affairs office • Prime contact person for events

Chapter Annual Planning - Functions • Create annual plan with dates – good to do in spring/summer for next year • Prepare calendar to email to members, Regional VP, Alumni Affairs office • Confer with Alumni Affairs office on large events to avoid conflicts and maximize participation • Mix tradition with new ideas • Mix education, social, entertaining

  9. Chapter Annual Planning – Functions (cont’d) • Budget each event to breakeven at a minimum. The ideal chapter maintains a scholarship fund at the School - $50,000 to fully endow. • Maximizing alumni discounts • Involve School personnel • Invite CHS National officers to key events • Critique events afterwards

Ask Your Board: • Are we planning events that are dynamic? • Are we including all age groups? • Are we attempting to get different people involved? • Can most alums afford it? • Do we want non-member participation? • Should we have outside speakers? • Do we want SHA or CHS Exec participation? • Are some small events desired? • Shall we charge less for young alums or more to non-CHS members?

Regional Vice Presidents • Provide oversight and direction • Direct Regional Efforts • Recruitment • Development • Placement • Monthly Chapter Contacts/Annual Visits • Report to Designated 1st or 2nd VP • Communicate events to 1st/2nd VP Alumni Affairs office • Contact CHS Collegiate Chapter Regional Representative to maximize student involvement

Office of Alumni Affairs and Regional VP • Communicate • Chapter leadership changes & other issues • Chapter events for online CHS calendar • Marketing needs – give appropriate lead time • New alumni lists to chapters • Magazine submittals • Honorary Member candidates • Regional meetings • Access to CHS Websites • When in doubt, call Alumni Affairs office
