  1. Numbers 33:53 “and you shall take possession of the land and live in it, for I have given the land to you to possess it."

  2. Philippians 3:12 "Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.“ • AMPLIFIED – “Not that I have now attained [this ideal], or have already been made perfect, but I press on to lay hold of (grasp) and make my own, that for which Christ Jesus (the Messiah) has laid hold of me and made me His own.”

  3. Choose Today Possessing the Promised Land

  4. I. Joshua’s Challenge Joshua 23-24 • Joshua’s Challenge • Allotted lands conquered and unconquered • Follow the Book of instruction – not deviating from it • God fights for you – one of you will put a thousand to flight • Don’t turn away from the Lord or cling to the customs of the nations

  5. The Lord’s goodness • Rescued from Egypt • Rescued from Amorites • Made Balaam bless you • Gave you victory over Canaanites • Not your swords or bows that brought you victory • I gave you the land, the towns, the vineyards, the olive groves – you did not work on, build, or plant

  6. Joshua solicits a response • Fear the Lord • Serve him wholeheartedly • Serve only him • If not him – choose today whom you will serve • As for me and my family (household), we will serve the Lord

  7. Moses at his departure - Deuteronomy 30:19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!”

  8. People’s Response • We would never abandon the Lord and serve other gods • The Lord has done all these things for us • So we will serve the Lord for He alone is our God

  9. Joshua dies at 110 • The people of Israel served the Lord throughout Joshua’s lifetime and of the elders who outlived Joshua

  10. II. Your Choice for Salvation • Romans 3:21-22 • Made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ • True for everyone who believes

  11. Romans 5:1-2, 17 • Peace with God because of what Jesus has done for us • Brought us to a place of undeserved privilege

  12. The sin of Adam caused death to rule over many (v.12 – everyone) • Greater is God’s gift of righteousness for all who receive it • Triumph over sin and death through Jesus

  13. Matthew 7:13 - 14 13“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way.  14But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. • John 14:6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

  14. III. Choose This Day Whom You Will Serve • Romans 6:12-18 • Do not let sin control the way you live • Give yourselves completely (wholeheartedly) to God • You become the slave of whatever you choose to obey • You can be a slave to sin which leads to death • You can choose to obey God which leads to righteous living

  15. 2 Corinthians 5:15 He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.

  16. Galatians 2:20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

  17. You and your household • Deuteronomy 6:6-7 "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." • Proverbs 22:6 "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it."

  18. Reflection Time • A scriptural solicitation of response to the Lord is to consider all that He has done for you? What has the Lord done for you? • Describe the difference between a life lived for self and a life lived for Christ. What would the outcome be of either one? • Why is it vital that a choice be made “Today”? If not today, why not? If not today, when?
