    12. Importance of Correcting Deficiencies Housing rehabilitation can be an effective strategy for reversing a neighborhoods trend towards decline. Correcting deficiencies renews neighborhood confidence. Safe conditions help avoid injury or owner liability. Efficiency is becoming a greater issue in present times. The replacement of inefficient components such as doors and windows not only provide savings for the resident but also conserve valuable and scarce resources.

    13. Importance of Correcting Deficiencies Correction of housing deficiencies will help sustain or increase neighborhood values and integrity. Poor condition of homes may lead to neighborhood indifference about property maintenance. Investing to properly maintained units increase values and returns on sales. Collectively maintained neighborhoods make for desirable locations that attract those who will continue to sustain neighborhood integrity.

    14. Importance of Correcting Deficiencies Today’s problems will not fix themselves and will only become a greater concern for the future. Not only can the deficiencies become worse, but they may lead other structural problems. Shingle deterioration leads to rotting eaves, sheathing, rafters and ridges. Gutter dysfunction leads to degradation of primary structural components such as roof, wall and foundation.
