Torchlight Procession The torchlight Procession is a warm-up for the Hogmanay, starting the New Year celebrations in Edinburgh on December 29th at 6.30pm. It is a march of 12,000 people carrying flaming torches and creating the illusion of a river of fire flowing through Edinburgh city centre.
Night Afore International The festivals of the Night Afore International are set to bring everyone in the mood for the next night’s New Year celebrations. The Night Afore consists of a street theatre, Scottish dancing, music, bagpipes.
Hogmanay Street Party The Hogmanay Street Party is the main attraction of Scotland’s New Year celebrations. It takes place in Edinburgh City Centre with nearly 100,000 people dancing. The most memorable moment of a Hogmanay Party are the first minutes of the New Year. People start hugging and kissing each other, it doesn’t matter if you know somebody or not. The crowd sings Auld Lang Syne, the traditional New Year song.
7 Hills Fireworks In last years, the firework show was being held in 6 places around Edinburgh and in the city itself. In this year the fireworks will be lighted up in: • Corstorphine Hill, • Craigmillar Hill, • Braid Hill, • Blackford Hill, • Castle Hill, • Calton Hill, • Arthur's Seat.
The New Year Revels The Assembly Rooms in George Street. You go there to celebrate the Hogmanay listening to Scottish and Irish singing (ceilidh) and late night clubbing.
Candlelight Concert Candlelight Concert in St Giles Cathedral – a more spiritual way of celebrating the New Year in the most important church in Edinburgh.
The One O’Clock Run One O’clock Gun is the starting signal for the run. The run starts at the Castle and finishes in the Holyrood Park.
Edinburgh’s Bicycle Triathlon As other triathlons is consists of 3 disciplines: swimming, cycling, running. The price for the winner is an award of ₤500. ₤500
Iron Kids Duathlon Iron Kids Duathlon- a competition for children aged from 8-15. they have to run 600 metres then cycle 2 miles and run 600 metres.
Edinburgh’s Dogmanay Edinburgh’s Dogmanay - a set of races, where the dogs are the competitors. That evening is being held in the Holyrood Park and the event is free and unticketed.
The famous city of Edinburgh is home of the Scottish Hogmanay and one of the greatest places on earth to see in the New Year.
