TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS RENEWAL PROCESS • Competency Certificate • Obtain training certificate from accredited training institution • Successfully completed prescribed test on knowledge of the Act • Apply at relevant DFO for competency certificate • Background evaluation • Fingerprints • Process applications on EFRS • Submit to CFR • Issue competency certificate • Print at Competency Certificate at Provincial Office • Licence to possess corresponding licence, permit or authorisation • Apply simultaneously with competency certificate at relevant DFO • Safe inspection – issue inspection certificate • Process application on EFRS • Submit to Provincial Office • Consider and issue licence, permit or authorisation at Provincial Office • Forward competency certificate and licence to relevant DFO

MARKETING AND ADVERTISING SAPS INTERNAL MEDIA • Amnesty for illegal possession of firearms/ammunition and Voluntary surrendering of legally owned firearm Leaflets were inserted in 214 000 salary envelopes recieved by SAPS personnel in December 2004 • Renewal of firearm licences information will be carried on salary envelopes that will reach all SAPS employees end of September 2005 • Adverts and editorial content are disseminated to all e-mail users.

INFORMATION PRODUCTS LEAFLETS • September 2004: distributed Shoprite/ Checkers sponsored leaflets on Firearm Safety at outlets nationally • 2 January 2005: distributed 200 000 Amnesty leaflets (text in 11 languages) at Huguenot, Carousel and Mooi Plazas • 687 000 Renewal of firearm licences leaflets (in English) distributed nationally • 165 000 leaflets on Rub out Gun Violence distributed nationally • 200 000 Amnesty leaflets distributed nationally • 360 000 Renewal of firearm licences leaflets in all languages to be available end of September.
