Introduction I wanted to research porcupines, because my friend, Sara in America has a pet porcupine. When I first saw the porcupine I just wanted to learn more about this animal breed.
Physical Description Porcupines have black and brown quills, which are also the color of tree stumps to camouflage them. The porcupine is at least 2 feet long. Porcupines have guard hairs to keep them warm in the winter. The quills on their body are at least 5 inches long, the quills on the tail are 3 inches long.
Habitat Porcupines live in forests in Canada, United States (a lot are found in California), and many more places. They live in tree stumps.
Predators The predators of the porcupine are the fisher and humans. A fisher attacks by nipping the porcupines face. Otherwise all the other animals like the lion is scared of it.
what do they eat ? Porcupines eat water lilies, fruits and veggies. In the winter they also eat tree bark, but don’t worry about it going to waste - bunnies will clean up the mess they make in the winter. In the spring, when it’s warmer they eat plants.
Interesting Facts about Porcupines Porcupines get turned into things like bags and tools in the old times. The porcupine used to be a pest for some people. But right now some people keep them for pets.
