Reviewing our Cross Check the CAL Calibration Ping and Yvonne 01/28/08 dE/dx Theory and electronics linearity – Ping Beam Tests for Proton and Carbon comparison of experiment to Theory - Yvonne
Energy loss (dE/dx) in the CAL -MC agrees with the theoretical calculation • dedx code • Theoretical calculation • Weaver & Westphal, Nucl. Instrum. Methods Phys. Res. B 187, 285-301 (2002) • http://confluence.slac.stanford.edu/download/attachments/30193/ping032707_dEdxCode.pdf?version=1 • GLEAM • GlastRelease-v11r17 • GEANT4 8.0.p01 • Full LAT geometry • GEANT4 8.0.p01 • Simple CAL: 12 * 8 CsI crystals • Cut value 1mm • The GEANT and GLEAM simulations are consistent with the dedx code, by comparing the results of muon, proton and carbon. • http://confluence.slac.stanford.edu/download/attachments/44124/ping102207_calMeeting.pdf?version=1
Check the CAL calibration with cosmic ray and charge injection • Non-linearity between DAC and ADC • Charge injection • One typical crystal Deviation from linearity Deviation from linearity
Muon Gain Cal element 201(used for LE linearity) Flight Gain Cal element 105 Muon Gain Cal element 204(used for HE linearity) Flight Gain Cal element 106 • Linearity between ranges of the same diode (LEX1/LEX8, HEX1/HEX8) • Black: ground cosmic ray data 77003627 • Color: charge injection, investigated 4 crystals in each plot
Ratio of LEX1 and HEX8 • SPS 99 GeV electron run 700001796 • <1% entries deviated from linearity • Gary is investigating this small fraction of entries • https://confluence.slac.stanford.edu/download/attachments/4096791/Protons_100Gev.pdfhttps://confluence.slac.stanford.edu/download/attachments/4096791/Protons_100Gev.pdf
Summary • The energy loss dE/dx in the GLEAM is consistent with the theoretical calculation, for muon, proton and carbon. • Cross check the non-linearity between DAC and ADC • LEX1/LEX8 and HEX1/HEX8 are linear • HEX8/LEX1 is linear for most entries, but a small fraction (<1%) has large deviation.
