  2. Simple Sentence • Simple sentence has a subject and a predicate. • David ran a mile. The Subject is David. The complete predicate is ran a mile. *The subject is before the verb. The verb starts the predicate!

  3. Simple sentence with Compound Subject • Noah and Jerald like video games. • There are two subject nouns: Noah, Jerald • There is still only one complete thought.

  4. Simple Sentence w/ Compound Predicate • Lexiedanced and sung at the party. • Notice that there are two verbs danced and sung. This indicates a compound predicate. • This sentence still represents only one complete thought.

  5. Compound Sentence • Mya bought a cat; she named her Sparkle. or • Mya bought a cat, and she named her Sparkle. Mya bought a cat is one complete sentence that is connected with another complete sentence : She named her Sparkle by a semi colon or comma (FANBOYS). Each sentence contains only one complete subject and one complete predicate.

  6. Compound Sentence w/Compound Subject • Dylan and Jonathan studied hard for their test, and they both made high grades. Step 1 – determine whether the sentence is Simple or Compound. • This is Compound bc it contains two sentences connected by comma (FANBOYS) Step 2- take one sentence at a time. Underline the Complete Subject of each sentence. Double line the Complete Predicate of each sentence. Step 3 – does one sentence have two subject nouns in the complete subject? Yes! The first sentence! • Dylan and Jonathan studied hard for their test

  7. Compound Sentence w/Compound Predicate • Travianae is usually very shy, but she asked Henry to the dance and gave a farewell speech at the party. Step 1 – Determine if the sentence is Simple or Compound. Step 2 – Underline the complete Subject and Double line the complete Predicate in each sentence. First sentence: Travianaeis usually very shy. Second sentence: Sheasked Henry to the dance and gave a farewell speech at the party. Step 3 – Determine if one of the sentences has two verbs in the complete predicate. Yes! The second sentence!

  8. Complex Sentence • A sentence joined with a fragment by a subordinate conjunction (A White Bus). • Ex: When I get mad, I stomp my feet. I stomp my feet is a complete sentence. • When is the subordinate conjunction that starts the fragment in this sentence. • When I get mad – fragment (incomplete thought)
