Applying to college is about much more than just getting good grades and test scores. The process is largely about students discovering their interests, developing their passion, and reaching their full potential. Sage helps students apply to traditional majors and programs such as business or engineering, as well as interdisciplinary programs, uniquely suited to each student’s overall profile. The Advising Process: 9th and 10th Grade 9th grade: Self-exploration and Academic Development •Students complete a self-exploration process that helps them discover their strengths and weaknesses, giving them an outlook of the various characteristics and talents that they possess when searching for a college and career. •Students receive recommendations for participation in school clubs, sports, extracurricular activities, internships, and charity work inside and outside of school that can hone in on the student's specific strengths. •In 9th grade, counselors with students to create a 4-year plan including course planning, exam dates and deadlines, summer activities, extracurriculars, and charity work to create a balanced profile. •Counselors may recommend tutoring and academic support for areas of academic weakness. 10th grade:Career Exploration and Academic Development •Students review their academic coursework and revise/update their 4-year plan if needed. •Students begin to explore a variety of careers and the steps needed to achieve their career and college goal. •Students prepare for standardized tests such as the PSAT. 2. •Students devise a preliminary university list including reach, goal, and safety schools. •Summer, Spring, or Winter Break College tours are scheduled. The Advising Process: 11th and 12th Grade 11th Grade: Exam Preparation and Essay Writing •Self-discovery helps students identify their strengths, different learning styles, and personality types that would shed light on different career clusters.
