AYSO EXTRA ProgramWhere and Why we started it? • The AYSO Strategic Plan addresses the need for change. “AYSO must be open to change in order to respond effectively to the shifting needs of its current and future members and customer base."
AYSO EXTRA ProgramWhy we started it? Top Reasons why Regions and Areas wanted EP‐Type Programs: • To provide competition beyond tournaments • To reduce poaching from club • To retain players at all divisions • To retain volunteers • To retain their skilled, dedicated player base • To provide more soccer opportunities
AYSO EXTRA Program Purpose • To meet the expressed needs of our membership by developing programs and players now and in the future • To meet our external marketplace needs by providing more and diverse programs • To renew and expand our program brand, putting AYSO in the forefront of youth soccer at all playing levels • Creating a higher level of competition in a controlled environment where AYSO can ensure Player Development is the priority over winning
AYSO EXTRA Program Is: • An Internal program coordinated by Areas • The opportunity for S/A/Rs to offer a higher level of competitive play to those players with the interest and desire • A SAFE environment for players to enhance their soccer experience and individual player growth and development • A way to strengthen AYSO through internal programs that retain and recruit both players and volunteers through more competitive play
Program Specifics • Application to Section Directors • Player Selection with Neutral Evaluators • Non-AYSO Player Registration Form • Finances through Region account • Utilize proper National Accounting Codes • Utilize proper eAYSO designation of EXTRA players and funds • Marketing materials available
AYSO EXTRA Program Is Not: • The right answer for every region • Interplay with non-AYSO league or program • Travel programs, School leagues, All Stars of Tournament teams
AYSO EXTRA Program Definitions EXTRA Concurrent • Players participate on two teams – one is a standard primary program team and the other is an EXTRA team. • EXTRA Concurrent Programs run concurrently with the standard primary program but each game may be played on a different day of the week. 9
AYSO EXTRA Program Definitions EXTRA Side-By-Side • Players participate on one team. • Games are played side-by-side with the standard primary program games. • Should be on the same day if field space allows. Teams and players may be eligible for some tournaments and for National Games, but currently not for All-Stars. 10

EXTRA Pilot Program Application • eAYSO reports prepared for participating Regions • Required Board Positions filled • Required Board Position volunteers have completed job specific certification • Player/Coach/Referee counts and qualifications for requested age groups • Application documents and reports are sent to SD for their review
Program Approval • SD reviews to determine if: • Regions are running strong Core programs • Regions have enough players, coaches, referees and volunteers to build EXTRA while sustaining core program • SD will contact submitter to discuss any issues or concerns, steps needed to respond to issues • When issues are addressed, the SD will approve and send to NBOD to permit Board oversight and auditing • NBOD makes final approval
Program Oversight Section Directors will work with Program Administrators to provide assistance SD’s are responsible for full oversight and management of all EXTRA programs within his/her Section All new or renewing pilot programs will complete and submit Program Applications to their SD

EXTRA participation at National Games began at the 2012 Games. The EXTRA flight is expected to be even larger for the 2014 Games coming up!
Survey Says • 65.4% said EXTRA was either a GREAT or the BEST team soccer experience • 55% rated the player development as more significant than in previous years • 54% said they were likely to join another soccer program if EXTRA was not offered • 62.3% said they were very likely to reapply for the EXTRA program
Where do we go next? EXTRA Task Force preparing a Business Case for moving EXTRA from a Pilot Program to an Approved Program. Once approved by the NBOD, this change will be presented to the Executive Members for consideration.
