WIRELESS NETWORKS -A.HARIKA Y5CSO28
INTRODUCTION • It refer to a telecommunication networks whose interconnections between nodes is implemented without the use of wires. • They are generally implemented with some type of remote information transmission system that uses electro magnetic waves for carrier.
BASICS • The basic wireless network is organized in two ways 1)BSS network. 2)IBSS network. • Security mechanisms
INFRASTRUCTURE MODE • ifconfig command scans the neighboring stations. • The flags included in the output depending on the capabilities of AP’s are -E: Extended Service Set (ESS). -I: IBSS/ad-hoc network -P: Privacy -S: Short Preamble -s: Short slot time
BASIC SETINGS • IP address is needed, if there's more than one wireless network, we need to specify the ssid • WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) is basically a temporary key integrity protocol, which uses the 802.11 standards.
CONSTRUCTION • SSID • The channel that the router uses • Your router's security options • WEP • WPA • MAC
TYPES OF WIRELESS NETWORKS • Wireless LAN • GSM • PCS • D-AMPS • WI-FI • Fixed wireless data
STEPS TO IMPROVE NETWORK • Position your wireless router in a central location • Replace your router's antenna • Replace your computer's wireless network adapter • Add a wireless repeater • Change your wireless channel • Reduce wireless interference
APPLICATIONS • Information could be sent overseas. • Cellular phones. • Police department utilize wireless networks to communicate important information quickly • It is an inexpensive and rapid way to be connected to the Internet.
DISADVANTAGES • Interference might block the radio signals from passing through. • Nearby networks using the same frequencies, also cause interference within the network. • Compatibility.
