    4. 25 September 2012 Introduction Learning goal for today Audience Foreign and domestic Judo referees This hour will give you an introduction to the basics of “leading a” G-Judo competition This introduction + 2 years of experience will make you a G-Judo referee You know you have had a successful day if : You had no real injuries on your mat All participants are looking forward to the next tournament

Empathy for people with mental disability Knowledge concerning the physical ability and disabilities of participants. Know how these sport-(wo)men experience their sport Rem : Over the last few year, the level in G-Judo increased very fast

    6. 25 September 2012 Prerequisites G-Judo Referee A (potential) G-Judo Referee : Gives structure to the game Provides security to the participants Has understanding for their emotions Communicates in an adapted way If relevant, showing is better than verbal explanation Gives positive stimulation Is a very patient person

    7. 25 September 2012 Prerequisites G-Judo Referee A (potential) G-Judo Referee knows that the participants have, in general, difficulties with : Anticipation on situations to come Projecting remarks to a different situations. Unknown situations To react on & the understand of (verbal) information Concentration Reaction speed Japans versus own language in relation to judo terms Institutionalized fear of failure

    9. 25 September 2012 Rules (Mostly guidelines) If necessary it is allowed to assist the participant to enter the contest area If one of the participants is registered to compete only in ne-waza the other participant has to adjust The referee is allowed to give an interpretation to the rules (except for the prohibited actions) if the safety or wellbeing of one of the participants is at stake. The referee can stop /suspend the game and take corrective actions

    10. 25 September 2012 Rules (Mostly guidelines) Progress of the game For the age group under 12 the game is 2 min For the age group over 12 the game is min 2 min and max 3 min. determined by the tournament organization When applying to participate, it is registered, whether the participant will compete in Tachi- or in Ne-waza The referee could decide, for reason of safety of the participant to continue in Ne-Waza instead of the registered Tachi-waza (in exceptions even during a game) A participant registered as Ne-Waza will continue in Ne-Waza for the whole tournament In case there is (by mistake ?) a competitor in a group with a major level difference related to the rest of the group the referee can request the organization to reconsider the divisioning
