Lashkar-e-Tayyiba Angad Sandhu November 24, 2013 • Lashkar-e-Tayyiba is a lay-organization derived from the Markuz-ud-Dawa-wal-Irshad. • It is an Pakistani Islamic Fundamentalist organization classified as a terrorist organization by the US, UN, and many others.
Reasons for Establishment Zaki-ur Rehman organized the Ahl-e-Hadith Muslim group from Pakistan to start jihad against Afghanistan Soviets. One year later, Hafiz Saeed and Zafar Iqbal form the Jamat-ud-Dawa, a missionary group dedicated to Ahl-e-Hadith Islam. 1986: JuD merged to form the Markaz-al-Dawa-wal-Irshad (MDI). 1990: LeT was launched as separate military wing of MDI with the commitment to global jihad. Jihad forms the basis for LeT’s ideology; it is the motive for jihad that LeT exists.
Violence and Justification • Justification for violence includes the premise that the “enemy” dies by the “enemy’s” hands as opposed to one taking his own life. • For the LeT, it is more significant to destroy the enemy by force rather than have the enemy destroy itself on its own.
Unrealistic Goals • The Lashkar-e-Tayyiba strive to achieve the unification of all of India under one Sunni Islamic region. • Lashkar-e-Tayyiba without a doubt is a threat; they have committed various attacks before; it is not possible, nonetheless, for their jihad to finally winover. • This is impossible because its members only contain a few thousand. • Other international powers (ie: U.S.) have much more technological means of warfare and strategic efforts in dealing with Middle-Eastern terrorists. (example: bin Laden)
Conclusion • The Lashkar-e-Tayyiba is a branched off organization derived from earlier organizations. It follows the same ideological principles of Sunni Islam (Wahhabi) and seeks an ultimate objective of uniting not only India but the world into a one-religion lifestyle of Wahhabi. • Killing and terrorism is a means for this group to act out their goal; they believe that action by force is more productive. • Ultimately, they may pose a serious threat in the Middle East and rest of the world in some respects, but they will eventually come to an oblivion should they expand any farther. Other nations will certainly become involved.
