  2. What ? • Parallel, comparative evaluations and demonstrators of: • D+ • MDC • SPP for resource discovery embedded in VLEs (WebCT & Moodle) } Resource discovery tools

  3. Why ? (human factors) • Lecturers wish to find resources for use in courses they run, and wish to make those resources available to their students via the course VLE. • E.g. as reading lists • Is there any benefit to having resource discovery tool embedded in VLE?

  4. How? (technical stuff) • As simple as possible! • Customisable web page templates for embedding search tool and results in VLE • OpenURL resolver for localised results • Resource lists as RSS

  5. How? (non technical stuff) • Talk to stakeholders • Teachers, VLE support staff, Library technical staff, subject librarians ... • before, during and after using tools while building course • to get • user requirements, and • opinions of whether approach works.

  6. Challenges and Problem Areas • Involving academic staff (in August, while planning courses)
