Private Public Partnerships from 2010-2013 Industry • €2.2billion has been committed to a new EU R&D initiative towards some of the most traditional EU sectors in response to the recession • €1.2bn – Factories of the Future (Manufacturing industry) • €1.0bn – Energy Efficient Buildings • www.fp7ireland.com
European Funding for R&D Framework Programme 7 • FP7 is the EU mechanism to fund collaborative ‘Research and Development’ work among entities in EU member states. • FP7 runs from 2007 – 2013 • Universities, SMEs, MCNs and Individuals can participate in the different areas of the programme. • Funding rates for FP7 vary but, all in all, are the most generous R&D programme in the world. • http://cordis.europa.eu/home_en.html
Framework Programme 7 • Budget is over €50 Billion • Covers Four Specific Research Programme. Cooperation (€32.202 Billion); Ideas (€7.460 Billion); People (€4.577 Billion); Capacities (€4.193 Billion). • €2.2billion has been committed from FP7 to a new EU initiative in response to the recession on some of the most traditional EU sectors – Private Public Partnerships from 2010-2013 • €1.2bn – Factories of the Future (Manufacturing) • €1.0bn – Energy Efficient Buildings • €1.0bn – Green Cars • Collaborative projects run for 2-4 years depending of the programme. • Typical funding for an SME varies from €100-400k, number of partners 7-10. • SMEs and MNCs are an essential part of a consortium
PPP € > 50bn - FP7 Breakdown Health; Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology; ICT Nano‑sciences, Nano‑technologies, Materials and new Production Technologies; Energy; Environment (including Climate Change); Transport (including Aeronautics); Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities; Space; Security.

Steps to participate • Contact your FP7 National Contact Point in your area: www.fp7ireland.com • Identify a topic you would like to work on • Identify your partners/coordinator in a consortium • Prepare your proposal – avail of National funding for proposal preparation (http://www.fp7ireland.com/Page.aspx?SP=225) • Submit – Project evaluation, project kick off ~ 4-5 months
Jan-Oct year 1-3 results (Ireland) ICT, health and NMP account for 65% of the funding (EU leverage €152,681M) 1. Information & Communication Technologies (€35,364,774); 2. Marie Curie (€27,701,053); 3. Health (€16,387,087); and 4. Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, Materials & Production Processes (€12,271,610).
