Welcome! Ms. Kate LaMachia lamachia@robbinsville.k12.nj.us 8th Grade RAS
Am I in the right room? 8th Grade RAS Room B102 We will meet here everyday!
Where am I supposed to sit? Sit in a desk where you feel the most comfortable and will be the most productive.
What are the rules in this classroom? • Students must come to class prepared with all proper materials • Students are to work quietly • Be a “positive learner” • Treat others with respect • Respect your environment • Listen to all directions before you ask questions • Be honest • Be confident
What are the consequences? We will work by a three strikes system– You will receive a strike as a consequence of choosing to break a rule • Zero strikes in one day = A chance to roll the die for a reward • One strike in one day = Will receive a Stop token as a warning, and does not get a chance to roll the die that day • Two strikes in one day = Fill out an Action Plan and contact parents
Please stop what you’re doing and make a better choice What’s an action plan? • If you break a rule, you are not being punished. You have consciously made a choice to break a rule and that means you have to accept the consequences • If you receive 2 strikes for the day, you will move to the back of the room and fill out an Action Plan. This will help us to problem- solve how to improve your behavior. We will then share this Action Plan with your parents via e-mail
What are the rewards? • Roll the dice and receive one of these rewards: • 1 = 1 Knight’s Pledge • 2 = 10 minutes computer time pass • 3 = iPod listening pass • 4 = Leave RAS 2 minutes early • 5 = Choose your reward • 6 = 1 point towards a movie day in RAS (need a class total of 50)
Procedures • We will use several procedures in our RAS class to help us be the most organized and successful…
Entering the classroom Procedure • If you arrive before Ms. LaMachia, line up against the wall outside of the classroom • Once Ms. LaMachia greets you and asks you to come in, go get your folder • Set your goal for the day, and circle what kind of assistance you are going to need • Give your folder back to Ms. LaMachia • Go to your seat and get to work! Ms. L
Working procedure • Work independently at your desk • Talking is permitted as long as it’s a low volume and its not distracting you from being productive • Work on whatever you set your goal on. If you circled that you need assistance, work on what you can until Ms. LaMachia can conference with you
What do I do next procedure Finished all your homework? Check in with Ms. LaMachia and then you can: • Read your independent reading book • Organize your binders • Vocabulary review on the computer • Educational game on the computer
Leaving the room procedure • Raise your hand and ask for permission to leave the room • Fill out the hall pass completely • Have Ms. LaMachia sign it • When you return write down the time on the hall pass • Get right back to work
End of the period procedure • With 5 minutes left in the period, Ms. LaMachia will say “Folder time!” • Put all of your supplies away and get your folder • Fill out your folder and return it to Ms. LaMachia • Rewards/Consequences for the day will be given out when all folders are collected • After you receive your reward/consequence, sit quietly in your seat and wait for dismissal
