  2. What is Theology? • Theo (God) • Logy (Word or Knowledge)

  3. Who Does Theology? Romans 1: 18-21 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

  4. What is Systematic Theology? • Systematic Theology is the discipline of organizing or “systematizing” theological thought. Systematic theology should be ultimately biblical in nature but also taking into account the history of biblical and theological interpretation.

  5. Why Do Theology? • Philippians 3:8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. • Hebrews 5:13-14 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

  6. What is Theology Proper? • Theology Proper is the study of the nature and attributes of God Himself as distinguished from the broader use of the term theology.

  7. The Trinity • God is Three – God is One • The Father – The Son – The Holy Spirit • One in essence – Three in person

  8. Erroneous Views of the Nature of God • Modalism • Adoptionism • Marcionism

  9. The Omnis of God • Omniscience • Omnipotence • Omnipresence

  10. The Attributes of God • Communicable • Incommunicable
