  1. Here’s Why Every Northeastern American Home Needs a Generator Here’s Why Every Northeastern American Home Needs a Generator For many homeowners, generators are viewed as luxury items rather than necessities. After all, power outages are rare occurrences, and they’re typically rather short. Unfortunately, these homeowners often find out that power outages can last a long time, and when they can’t heat their homes safely, it becomes a real issue for their families. Here are some of the reasons why every Northeastern American home should have a generator in place. Weather is Unpredictable Though the Northeast doesn’t see as many tornadoes as places like Oklahoma and Kansas, they can certainly happen – and they have. The Northeast is also prone to things like hurricane damage (even in Western New Hampshire) and blizzard-like conditions that can take out power for days. Nobody can control the weather, and though crews work hard to get power restored as fast as they can, sometimes things are just too treacherous for days. It’s always best to be prepared with high-quality Kohler generators. Food Spoils Quickly One of the things that many people don’t think about in a power outage is the rate at which food can actually spoil. Without power, as long as you do not open the doors, your refrigerator and freezer can keep food at safe temperatures for as little as four and as long as 12 hours depending on their efficiency – but no longer. As such, if you have hundreds of dollars of food in a chest freezer and refrigerator, you could very well lose these unless you hook your appliances up to a generator. You Use a Sump Pump A sump pump is designed to prevent flooding inside your home by diverting water out of a low-lying area to a safer location. However, these pumps require electricity to do their jobs. Without it, you might find yourself dealing with some pretty nasty damage to your home, your furniture, and more –and that doesn’t even account for the mold that can grow months later. If you have a sump pump, you should also have a generator to run it in the event of a power outage during heavy rains or significant melting periods. You Rely on Well Water If your water comes from a well, you have to stop and think about how that water finds its way around your plumbing system. More often than not, it all happens with the help of electricity. Most homes no longer have a hand-operated pump that allows them to draw water out of the ground manually, so without electricity, you may not have any water at all. With that in mind, if your family relies on well water, make sure you have a generator that can power the pump as needed. It can make a tremendous difference. Generators are more than just luxuries. For some homeowners, they could mean the difference between staying at home or traveling to a relative’s house or a hotel. What’s more, they can even prevent significant damage to your home and give you access to water in the event of a power outage.
