Romans 7:15-19 15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.
Romans 7:15-19 17As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.
Romans 7:15-19 19For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do – this I keep on doing.

The Silent War “And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.” Rom.7:18-19 NLT
What, Who, When? • Paul uses present tense in this passage. • This is a picture of a maturing saint. • Paul describes the experience he was having as a follower of Christ. • This is Paul’s problem, my problem and your problem.
Facts of Romans 7 • The law is spiritual – and the law is to be loved. • I am carnal, fleshly – constantly bombarded by my flesh. • Consequently there is a constant battle between my flesh and the law.
What does this passage teach? • There are two forces, influences, powers living in this body. • Paul tells us that there are two "Pauls". One wants to do right and the other wants to do wrong. These two men share one body and they fight over everything. • We are locked in a battle that is described in detail in these verses!
Flesh • Flesh is a bully, it wants it’s way and will push and shove in order to gain the upper hand. • Flesh is like the famous cuckoo who never builds a nest of its own.
What must we do to the flesh? • Crucify it, crucify it, crucify it!!!!! • Galatians 2:20 • Galatians 5:24
When Flesh Rules • Wrong ideas and evil intentions emerge from our own fleshly nature and subconscious mind. • Many of the things we see are pleasing to fleshly desires and also lead to sin. • Our flesh is often stimulated by immoral TV shows, pornographic videos and magazines, or the conducting of immoral discussions. • Our flesh is a big target for spiritual agents from the kingdom of darkness.
