  2. I am from music like the giggle of my little Yaya, the chills of a choir in harmony, and the quirky indie rock of artists mosthave never heard.

  3. I am from places like chasing skinks in the sand pit before racing home for a popsicle, a campus that feels like home when I see the bell tower, and a state where water is never far away.

  4. I am from sayings like “ ’ello face” from my sister, and “pipe down”, or “piling on” even though we don’t know what he’s talking about.

  5. I am from smells like curry, enchiladas, homemade pizza, wood smoke drifting in at night, and rain on gravel and grass when it’s not wormy.

  6. I am from people like abest friend who has my voice, a little dragon who hates to cuddle, a techie who makes me smile, a cowgirl who never wanted to grow up, and many compassionate and open-minded nerds.

  9. I am from jobs like the smell of mochas and fresh baked bread in the morning, carrying aluminum with allergic arms, knowing exactly when a tantrum is coming, and getting to meet new students every year.

  10. I am from clothes like comfy worn jeans soft as silk, shoes all over my closet, skirts instead of shorts for the summer, and shirts with odd artwork or sayings.

  11. I am from streets like county roads leading to little towns that are just big enough to be paved, roads that bite with gravel when Ifall off my bike, and highways I look forward to driving just so I can listen to my book.

  12. I am from problems like two homes and a life torn at the seams, not being so great at spelling, and finding a minute to relax during the school year.

  13. I am from teachings like “treat others the way they want to be treated,” “never give up,” and “you can’t always get what you want, but you might just get what you need.”

  14. I am from joy like pages worn smooth from reading, feeling at one with nature, a little girl asleep on my shoulder, and knowing that I am loved for all that I am.
