PSYCHOMETRIC VALIDATION OF THE SPANISH VERSION OF SCHALOCK AND KEITH (1993) QUALITY OF LIFE QUESTIONNAIRE • Research carried out by INICO: • To validate the Schalock and Keith Quality of Life Questionnaire in the Spanish population. • To check the applicability of the questionnaire to evaluate the quality of life of adults with intellectual disability who carried out a work activity. • Importance given to measure the quality of life in this population. • Lack of adequate instruments in Spanish language.

REASONS TO SELECT THE SCHALOCK AND KEITH (1993) QUALITY OF LIFE QUESTIONNAIRE • It has been created by authors of recognized prestige. • It is one of the most cited questionnaires. • There are previous studies that guarantee its utility. • Easy and quick application. • It has been created for persons with disability.

  4. SPECIFIC OBJETIVES • Adaptation of the Questionnaire. • Study of the viability of the Spanish version. • Reliability and validity studies. • Identifying applicability problems.

SCHALOCK AND KEITH (1993) QUALITY OF LIFE QUESTIONNAIRE • It evaluates the quality of life perceived by adults with and without intellectual disability. • It is composed of 40 items distributed over 4 scales: • Satisfaction Scale • Competence/Productivity Scale • Self-determination/Independence Scale • Social Belonging/Community Integration Scale.

  9. PROCEDURE • Translation and adaptation of the questionnaire. • Analysis of the agreement among expert judges. • First appointment and collaboration request. • Application of the Questionnaire. • Data Analysis and reliability and validity studies.

  10. 1. Translation and adaptation • INICO members have translated it: • Good knowledge of the languages. • Experts in the matter. • Keep in touch with the authors. • Procedure of back translation.

Agreement among expert judges • High agreement concerning to the belonging of the items to one or anothercategory:  = .95. • Acceptable agreement regarding intensity:  = .33. • High agreement in relation to thevalency: = .84. Items of the original Questionnaire are maintained at their corresponding factors

Changes in the Questionnaire • About instructions: to facilitate understanding it. • The order of presentation of the subscales: • Competence/Productivity Scale • Self-determination/Independence Scale • Satisfaction Scale • Social Belonging/Community Integration Scale. • Rewriting some items and answers options.

  14. RELIABILITY • Internal consistency was calculated: • Split-half correlation with Spearman-Brown correction: coefficients higher than .80- • Cronbach’s Alpha:  = .83 • Reliability among judges: • Cronbach’s Alpha:  = .97.

  16. VALIDITY • Content validity: • bibliographicalrevision:quality of life includes aspects related to welfare, satisfaction and social integration. • consultation to judges: = .97. • Construct validity: • factor analysis:correct match between items and scales.

This Questionnaire evaluates the quality of life of adults with intellectual disability CONCLUSIONS • Translation has been efficient to obtain an applicable version in Spanish language . • The presence of the 4 scales is confirmed and it has maintained its initial configuration. • The validated questionnaire has adequate and sufficiently solid psychometric characteristics.
