Rationale • Transboundary trade brings benefits to certain extents => find way to improve the effectiveness of transboundary trade • Exporting is one activity of transboundary trade and exporting education service is now a rather new but important to FTU • Participating in tranboundary trade, there are visible and hidden costs that FTU has to pay. It is necessary to study those costs so that the process will be more simple and effective.

  3. Research questions • Where do visible costs appear on the procedure of exporting education service? How on average? • What are the effects visible costs on the export activity? • Where do hidden costs arise? • Effects of hidden costs to the export? • What are more burdensome, visible costs or hidden costs? • Attitude of executives toward those costs?

  4. Some illustrations for the hidden costs • Waste of labor • Harmful to the environment • Harmful to the labor’s health • Erode enthusiasm to work

  5. Research objectives • Study the burden in term of money and other burdens FTU has to shoulder in exporting • Study the attitudes of the university toward the costs (visible and hidden). To the university, which one is more burden some • Find out some recommendations so that the export can be smoother and more effective.

  6. Conceptual framework • Relationship between visible costs and hidden costs

  7. Hypothesis • Visible costs are not much. Illegal costs counts for a big portion of the visible costs • Illegal costs are used to reduce the time spent on the paper work and procedure • Not many are aware of hidden costs even though they all hate the activities leading to the hidden costs • In some cases, FTU would rather pay illegal costs than hidden costs • More simple and transparent procedure is desired

  8. Scope and limitations • Limitation - time, budget, experience, and data resource • Scope • Area: visible and hidden costs in exporting education service • Target: Foreign Trade University, Vietnam • Time period: 5 years
